From the moment Leoś entered the world, his life has been a challenging adventure. Born at 38 weeks gestation with hypotrophy, Leo was exceptionally small, weighing only 2 kg at birth. Although he was a full-term baby, his diminutive size and early difficulties set the tone for the tough journey ahead. Right after birth, Leo encountered feeding challenges and struggled to gain weight—issues that continue to affect him today, prompting us to seek answers.
Initial Challenges
Leo’s early life was particularly tough. Due to low muscle tone, he was initially fed from a bottle. However, as his condition evolved, he lost his sucking reflex, necessitating spoon-feeding. While Leo’s cognitive development seems to be progressing normally, his physical growth has been significantly delayed. From the outset, Leo has faced numerous obstacles, yet he has consistently shown a strength and determination that inspires us daily.

The Struggle with Feeding
The initial months of Leo’s life were filled with uncertainty. After battling intestinal flu, he began to struggle with weight gain. The situation deteriorated as he faced additional infections. Despite consulting leading gastroenterologists, undergoing numerous tests, and ruling out food allergies, the exact cause of his difficulties remains unknown. This situation is frustrating and heartbreaking, leaving us feeling helpless at times.
Leo continues to contend with reflux, vomiting, and slow weight gain. Even when he appears to eat more readily, the weight gain is agonizingly slow. Each crisis—whether it’s a struggle to eat or another setback—halts his progress. It often feels like we are battling an unseen adversary, and there are days when continuing feels overwhelming.
A Potential Diagnosis

Currently, Leo is being nourished through a feeding tube to ensure he receives adequate nutrition. While this method has allowed him to consume enough food, it hasn’t addressed the underlying issues. Doctors have proposed that a rare genetic disorder might be the source of Leo’s ongoing challenges. However, confirming this requires expensive WES (Whole Exome Sequencing) testing, which could finally provide the definitive answers we desperately seek.
This test could shed light on the genetic factors contributing to Leo’s difficulties and potentially guide us toward a treatment plan that improves his quality of life. However, the cost of the test is substantial, and it is beyond our financial means.
Looking Ahead
In addition to the testing costs, Leo requires extensive rehabilitation and specialist consultations to aid his physical development and address his feeding challenges. These services are crucial for his growth and well-being, but they add to the financial burden we are already experiencing. As parents, we are doing everything we can to support Leo’s health and development, but we cannot do it alone.

A Request for Assistance
We are reaching out for help to cover the costs of the WES test, along with ongoing medical expenses and rehabilitation. The answers we seek could significantly impact Leo’s life, and every donation brings us closer to understanding the root of his struggles. Your support would provide us with the hope we need for a brighter future for Leo—a future where he can flourish and overcome the challenges that have hindered him.
We are deeply thankful for any assistance you can provide. Every contribution, no matter how small, will help us move closer to understanding and delivering the care Leo requires. Thank you sincerely for standing with us in this battle. With your support, we believe we can give Leo the best opportunity for a healthy and joyful future.
