Hania’s journey is truly remarkable. It tells the story of a young child confronting extraordinary challenges, yet demonstrating immense strength and bravery in her fight. At merely 1.5 years old, Hania has faced more than many experience in a lifetime. Her path is filled with sorrow, but also with hope. We share her story today because we urgently need your support.
While we were still expecting, we discovered that our beloved daughter would be born with a critical heart condition—Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). This diagnosis shattered our lives. Just two weeks after her birth, she underwent her first life-saving heart surgery. We were terrified, but we reassured ourselves that we would overcome this, believing the worst was behind us.
However, life had different plans.
Five months later, we found ourselves back in the hospital, concerned about fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. We thought it was a minor illness, but the test results brought devastating news: our little girl had leukemia.
Our world crumbled once more. Treatment began immediately and was intense—heavy chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. We watched our daughter, frail yet fighting, endure the harshest treatments her tiny body could withstand. Just when we thought we couldn’t bear any more, the worst occurred.
In July 2025, we were admitted to the hospital again, this time with alarming symptoms—weakness, diarrhea, and fever. Tests revealed a bacterial infection causing severe intestinal inflammation. Despite antibiotics, Hania’s condition worsened. Then, on July 22nd, we faced the unimaginable: Hania’s heart stopped.
Resuscitation efforts lasted for 20 agonizing minutes, and thankfully, she was revived. However, the damage was done. The lack of oxygen during her cardiac arrest resulted in hypoxia, and we are now dealing with its devastating effects.
The hypoxia caused Hania’s development to regress. The milestones she had achieved with such effort—smiling, sitting, following with her eyes, and picking up objects—disappeared. Today, Hania faces challenges with quadriplegia and epilepsy. The vibrant little girl we once knew is now trapped in a body that no longer responds to her.
To complicate matters, a second heart surgery is on the horizon.
Yet, despite these unimaginable challenges, we see a flicker of hope. Hania is still very young, and her brain’s neuroplasticity remains high. This gives us hope that with the right support, therapy, and rehabilitation, she can regain some of the abilities she has lost. However, time is critical, and the costs of daily physiotherapy, rehabilitation sessions, and specialized equipment are overwhelming.
The medical expenses, the cost of intensive treatments, and the need for ongoing physiotherapy exceed our financial capabilities. We are doing everything we can to manage these costs, but without external assistance, we fear that Hania’s progress will slow or even stop.
Hania is a remarkable girl, with a spirit that refuses to surrender. Each day, she demonstrates her strength as she perseveres through rehabilitation sessions, pushing herself to achieve what once seemed impossible. But without the necessary resources, we cannot provide her with the care she urgently needs.
