IT: Chapter 3 just got a major update by the producers of the hit franchise and Stephen King fans need to know what’s up.

will it chapter 3 happen

Producers and creators Andy and Barbara Muschietti have dropped major hints for the IT franchise that Stephen King fans cannot miss. In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns, Barbara Muschietti tells us the franchise will likely not end with IT: Welcome to Derry:

We shall see. It’s a universe. It is a universe, and there are characters that are still fascinating. There are more gaps. When the great Stephen King wrote the book, I think that he left those holes on purpose…. So, I don’t know. I don’t think this is the end, basically, is all I’ll say.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti recently wrapped up HBO Max’s first season of the hit show IT: Welcome to Derry, featuring our favourite scary Pennywise. The opportunities to continue exploring more cycles of Pennywise’s terror are something audiences are thirsty for.

Stephen King’s “Accidental Holes” in IT Opens Up More Stories

While continuing to speak to ScreenRant, Muschietti stated:

….I think that he left those holes on purpose. And if he didn’t do it on purpose, they’re just as great. They’re great accidents, but for us, they are a wonder. In doing the first season, of course, we uncovered a lot of holes.

IT: Welcome to Derry is inspired by the extremely famous IT novel by Stephen King, which explores the story of a group of people being terrorised by Pennywise the Dancing Clown during their childhood and adult years. Here are key details of the show.

In the interlude pages of the novel, Pennywise’s previous cycles of terror, preceding the events of It and It: Chapter Two, are briefly revealed.

The Muschiettis took this and filled in the gaps, so to speak, to create a banger first season for It: Welcome to Derry, and it looks like they’ve found potentially more stories that go beyond the three cycles of terror they have planned for Welcome to Derry.

IT: Welcome to Derry, will continue to explore different Pennywise reigns across its 27-year cycle of terror. Despite no official announcement for the second season, it is highly likely that the show will get another one due to its high popularity on the HBO Max streaming charts.

The Muschiettis will go backwards in time, with season 1 in 1962 and the rest going two decades back each season. We will likely see the Bradley Gang massacre in the next one that was briefly mentioned in both the It novel and the show.

Giving us more of Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise and lore perfectly sets up enough lore and storytelling as we figure out more and more of the creature’s origins on Earth.
