A stroke, a struggle for survival, surgery, and endless hours in the hospital—how could all this happen to our son in just one month? Krzyś, a lively and active boy, was full of joy until the evening of March 8, 2023. That night, everything changed in an instant.
My husband discovered Krzyś unconscious on his bedroom floor. Panic engulfed us as we rushed him to the hospital, uncertain of what was happening to our beloved child. What followed was a nightmare we could never have envisioned. Doctors diagnosed Krzyś with a hemorrhagic stroke in the left side of his brain. The fight for his life commenced immediately, leaving us in disbelief. Our son underwent surgery that lasted four long hours. As time passed, we could only wait, filled with fear about the outcome.
After the surgery, Krzyś was moved to the intensive care unit. The doctors’ prognosis was bleak. They informed us that due to the extensive damage to his brain, Krzyś might not comprehend us or even be able to speak. Our hearts sank. However, on the second day post-surgery, something miraculous occurred—Krzyś woke up.
While his awakening was a blessing, the journey ahead was fraught with challenges. The stroke inflicted severe damage, resulting in right-sided paralysis. Each day has become a relentless struggle for mobility, as Krzyś battles with movement and coordination. Additionally, he developed visual field defects and aphasia, making communication incredibly challenging. His world, once filled with joy and play, transformed into a realm of uncertainty, struggle, and pain.
As parents, we have witnessed Krzyś confront each day with bravery and resolve, despite the overwhelming obstacles. Yet, the truth is, this battle is far from over. Every small step he takes toward recovery feels like a triumph, but we understand there’s a long journey ahead before he can reclaim any part of the life he once enjoyed. The recovery process is arduous, but with appropriate treatment and intensive rehabilitation, we cling to hope.

Without this assistance, his progress would not have been achievable.
