Support Little Maja in Her Battle for Life

Maja is just one year old. While most kids her age are taking their first steps, laughing, and exploring the world, she is confined to a hospital bed, surrounded by wires, monitors, and IV drips. Each breath and heartbeat is a struggle for survival.

At the start of this year, Maja was a vibrant, joyful baby whose smile could brighten any room. Her parents, the Komorowskis, fondly recall how she would giggle at her brother’s toys and loved being carried around the house. But in just a few days, everything changed.

Maja became pale, weak, and feverish. Her parents rushed her to the hospital, filled with fear but hoping it was just a temporary infection. The diagnosis that followed shattered their lives: acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — a severe form of blood cancer.

“Our hearts stopped,” Maja’s mother recalls. “One moment she was our joyful baby, and the next, doctors were telling us she might not survive. Nothing can prepare you for that.”

From that moment, the hospital became their new home. In June, Maja began a series of four intensive chemotherapy cycles, each one a harsh trial for her small body. The treatments left her weak, nauseous, and drained — yet she continued to fight. Her parents stayed by her side, holding her hand through every injection, sleepless night, and tear.

Doctors planned a bone marrow transplant — her only real hope for long-term recovery. However, when the time arrived, Maja’s test results indicated that her body wasn’t ready. Her immune system was too weak. The transplant had to be delayed.

Currently, she is undergoing a new, experimental treatment, the last option available before the transplant can even be considered. If her body does not respond positively, she may lose her only chance.

“We’re living minute by minute,” Maja’s father shares. “Every test result feels like a gamble — will she be strong enough? Will she make it to the transplant?”

For over four months, Maja has remained in the hospital. She has not felt fresh air, seen her home, or played with her little brother. Her first birthday was spent in a sterile room, connected to IV lines instead of holding balloons. The family that once filled their home with laughter now whispers prayers in the quiet of the oncology ward.

Each day is a blend of fear and hope. Her parents sit by her bedside, reading stories she’s too fatigued to follow, singing softly while she drifts in and out of restless sleep. They watch her chest rise and fall, anxious about what the next hour may hold.

But they refuse to lose hope.

The doctors have made it clear: this treatment must succeed for Maja to undergo the bone marrow transplant scheduled for the end of November. If it fails, her options will be exhausted. The Komorowski family has reached out to specialists abroad, seeking additional support and second opinions — but every consultation, test, and hospital stay comes with significant costs.

“We’ll sell everything if we must,” Maja’s mother states. “We just need time — and help — to keep her fighting.”
