Finn Wolfhard, who played Richie Tozier in the IT movies, has confirmed he is connected to the show and that more is coming. In an interview with Esquire, Wolfhard revealed that Andy and Barbara Muschietti told him back in 2021 that he was involved in IT: Welcome to Derry. Wolfhard said,

I knew that years ago, actually. When they first started thinking about that show, it was probably 2021. Barbara and Andy Muschietti both told me, “You’re involved.” Yeah, I’m connected. I think there’s something else that will come up eventually that I’m excited for people to see.

That connection was confirmed in the IT: Welcome to Derry Season 1 finale. In the episode, one of the major characters, Marge, is revealed to be Margaret Tozier, Richie’s future mother.

The episode also showed Pennywise experiencing time non-linearly. He knows who Marge is. Pennywise taunts her with the knowledge of the Losers’ Club’s role in defeating him and that her future is already written. Just then, a photograph referencing Richie, a core member of Losers’ Club, appears in the episode. It subtly hints at his place in the story’s timeline.

With Stranger Things ending, Wolfhard is moving forward on his own terms. His next confirmed project is Crash Land, a stunt comedy movie where he stars opposite Gabriel LaBelle. The movie is directed by Dempsey Bryk and produced by Wolfhard through Kid Brother Productions, alongside frequent collaborator Billy Bryk (via Deadline).

Wolfhard is also expanding his work behind the camera. He previously co-directed the horror comedy Hell of a Summer at the age of 22 and released a solo album titled Happy Birthday. Recently, he directed a stop-motion music video for George Harrison’s classic, Give Me Love.

He has said he currently has no acting roles officially lined up, but has plans for new music. In the same Esquire interview, he said,

I’m probably going to tour a little bit with my band next year and put out another album. I have some music that I’ve written over the last two years that I want to record. So I’m kind of keeping it open.

He has emphasized he will only take roles he truly loves, while prioritizing his work as a director and producer.

While Stranger Things has officially ended, the Duffer Brothers have teased future stories within the same universe. Although they aren’t sure if they want to, they teased that the spin-off won’t focus on the original Hawkins kids, nor will it revisit the Montauk storyline from early fan theories. Instead, it will explore a smaller story within the same universe. In an interview with Deadline, Ross Duffer said,

It’s obviously not Holly and the kids or anything like that. It’s something much smaller than that. We’ve said this before, the spinoff idea we have, it is early days, but it is an entirely new mythology. So, it is connected.

They also teased that it is going to answer some of the questions that weren’t answered in the finale:

It is going to answer some questions that people have, and there’s some lingering questions that weren’t answered in the finale that will be answered in the spinoff. But at the end of the day, it’s got its own story and its own mythology.

In a Variety interview, the Duffers addressed that the mysterious rock-like object inside the briefcase could be the topic of interest in the spin-off. Matt Duffer admitted the moment was intentionally “spinoffy” and confirmed the new series will explain what the object is and why it matters. He said,

I do want to explain, just because people’s expectations go in certain directions: The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain that, and you’re going to understand it. But it’s a completely different mythology.

However, he stressed that it will not be a deep exploration of the Mind Flayer or the Upside Down, and there will be no returning cast members.

Stranger Things ended with season 5 on this New Year’s Eve, and unfortunately, it left some big plot holes that need to be answered. The most common question is whether Eleven is really dead. Then what happened to the monsters of Upside Down: Demogorgon, Demodogs, and Demobats when Vecna was fighting with the Hawkins gang? And what happened to Dr. Kay and the military?

These questions clearly need some answers, and Duffer Brothers’ spin-off tease is definitely giving fans a sense of hope.
