Madeleine Stowe, who plays Ingrid Kersh in the HBO series It: Welcome to Derry, has revealed that the series creators debated a major scene involving her character in Episode 7.

Episode 7 of the show revealed that Ingrid orchestrated the tragedy at the Black Spot, believing the catastrophe would help lure Pennywise, whom she is convinced is her long-lost father. In an interview with The New York Times, Stowe was asked whether Ingrid had been using Hank from the beginning to bring Pennywise back.

However, the actress pushed back on that idea, explaining that producers even considered a scene where Ingrid goes in to try to save Hank and his daughter. “Her feelings for him are very real,” she further shared.

However, the scene was ultimately removed to reinforce Ingrid’s unwavering loyalty to her father. “But she’s seeing these supernatural things start to happen, and her love for her father is even larger,” she continued, emphasizing that her devotion to her father becomes more powerful than her love for Hank, pushing her toward choices she never consciously intended.

Madeleine Stowe Explains the Complexity of Ingrid Kersh

During her interview with The New York Times, Madeleine Stowe reflected on the complexity of her character, Ingrid Kersh, in It: Welcome to Derry. Though Ingrid doesn’t initially appear sinister, Stowe explained that playing her layered moral ambiguity wasn’t difficult because Ingrid is not motivated by cruelty.

“She was good in her heart,” the actress said, adding, “That wasn’t a difficult thing to portray.” Stowe also explained that the loss of Ingrid’s mother, and especially her father, Bob Grey, aka Pennywise, left her trapped in the illusion It created.

There’s a sense that Ingrid is stunted. She’s caught in the age when this terrible tragedy happened. She’s been in a state of suspension all these years, waiting for the impossible, waiting for her father to be reclaimed — There’s something else that’s really driving her. Part of that involves Pennywise’s trickery over her, the illusion that he’s created.

Madeleine Stowe added that Ingrid doesn’t view her actions as harmful. Instead, she believes she is acting out of love. “In Ingrid’s mind, she thinks she can extract her father from It and bring him back to himself,” Stowe said.

It: Welcome to Derry Episode 7 of the series shows Ingrid seeing the Deadlights, leaving her shattered by what she’s witnessed. By the end of the episode, she survives but is taken away in restraints, staring chillingly at Ronnie and Will.

It: Welcome to Derry Creators Tease Emotional Finale

It: Welcome to Derry creators Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti have revealed that viewers should brace for an intensely emotional final episode of the horror series.

When asked about the finale in an interview with Collider, Barbara Muschietti asserted that the audience will be “destroyed” by where the story leaves its characters. Andy Muschietti echoed the sentiment, saying,

It’s a very emotional ending — There’s a feeling of closure. Of course, everybody that knows the movies knows that IT is alive in 1989, but there is a trick. There’s something that happens and it’s related to the reason we’re telling the story backwards. Nothing is what it looks like in this world.

Episode 7 of It: Welcome to Derry left fans on a tense cliffhanger heading into the finale. The military finally discovers and extracts the first pillar, revealed to be made of the same material as the magical dagger.

Shaw orders a physical examination to help locate the remaining pillars more quickly. Despite Leroy’s warnings, Shaw pushes forward and burns the pillar completely. The episode ends with IT awakening mid–sleep cycle and appearing at Will’s home, before violently attacking him.
