In a world where strength and resilience are often gauged by physical endurance, Maksiu demonstrates daily that true power resides in the spirit. Our cherished son, despite his struggle with the severe and incurable genetic disorder cystic fibrosis, imparts lessons about the strength of life and the unwavering power of determination. Even when faced with unimaginable obstacles, Maksiu stands as a steadfast warrior, tackling each challenge with a smile and an indomitable resolve to seek happiness.
From the outset, our journey with Maksiu was filled with uncertainty and fear. At merely 26 weeks of pregnancy, early indications of abnormalities in his intestinal structure were identified. Despite consulting numerous specialists nationwide, no one could provide a conclusive diagnosis. This should have been a time of joyful anticipation, yet we found ourselves engulfed in worry, confronting an uncertain future for our son. The day he was born, unfortunately, brought no relief, only additional challenges to overcome.
A Fight for Survival

Maksiu’s first day of life was a battle in itself. On that day, he underwent his first surgery, during which 7 cm of his intestines were removed, and his liver was in a critical state. His initial year was characterized by continuous hospitalizations, ongoing surgeries, and a relentless struggle to survive each day. The toll this took on him—and on us—was unimaginable. Yet, even then, Maksiu’s will to live and fight never wavered.
As the years progressed, we continued to seek answers, hoping to find ways to alleviate his suffering. However, his condition remained complex, and cystic fibrosis—the adversary that demands our full attention—was always present. Cystic fibrosis impacts multiple organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, leading to chronic respiratory and digestive issues. Consequently, Maksiu’s pancreas is ineffective, necessitating that he takes digestive enzymes before every meal for the rest of his life.
His daily regimen includes inhalation therapy three times a day, physiotherapy, and a multitude of medications and supplements to help manage his condition. Despite the burdensome nature of his treatments, Maksiu continues to astonish us. He is a smart, curious, and joyful boy who loves learning and sharing his discoveries. His resilience shines brightly every day, and despite all the hardships, his happiness and determination remain ever-present.
The Struggles We Face

However, the struggle is ongoing. Every flare-up of his condition brings immense anxiety and fear. His oxygen saturation levels drop, his body turns blue, and we are rushed to the hospital to put him on oxygen. This has only occurred once so far, but the threat is always present, a constant reminder of the fragility of his health. Each day is unpredictable, and the uncertainty of what tomorrow may bring weighs heavily on us.
The financial burden of caring for a child with such intricate medical needs is overwhelming. The expenses for treatment, hospital visits, medical equipment, rehabilitation, and maintaining a specialized diet are staggering and far exceed our financial capacity. Every aspect of his care is a struggle for us, but we will never cease fighting for his health. We continue to seek solutions, ways to alleviate his pain and enhance his quality of life. But we cannot do it alone.
A Call for Support

This is where we need your assistance. The costs of care are insurmountable, and without support, the weight of this burden will only continue to grow. Every contribution, no matter how small, will provide us with a glimmer of hope for a brighter future for Maksiu. With your help, we can persist in our fight for his health, giving him the best chance at life and ensuring he has every opportunity to reach his full potential.
We are appealing for your generosity and your support—not just for us, but for our son. Together, we can provide him with the chance to live a life filled with joy, possibility, and most importantly, health. Thank you from the depths of our hearts for being part of Maksiu’s journey. With your assistance, we can continue to fight this battle, one day at a time.
